Description
Keratoconus is a degenerative disorder of the eye resulting from structural weaknesses in the corneal collagen network, causing the cornea to thin and protrude anteriorly. This distorted shape prevents light from properly focusing on the retina, resulting in highly irregular astigmatism and significant visual impairment. It typically emerges during adolescence or early twenties and progressively worsens for a decade or two before stabilizing.
