Description

Enterobiasis is transmitted via the fecal-oral route when microscopic, environmentally resilient pinworm eggs are accidentally ingested. Gravid female worms migrate from the colon to the perianal region at night to deposit thousands of eggs, secreting an irritating substance in the process. This causes intense itching, facilitating the spread of eggs to the host's hands, clothing, and surrounding environment.
