Description
Cytotoxic T-cells specifically target and permanently destroy the insulin-producing beta cells situated within the pancreatic islets of Langerhans. It most frequently develops in children and young adults, requiring lifelong administration of exogenous insulin for survival. Without insulin, circulating glucose cannot enter the cells, leading to severe metabolic starvation and vascular damage.
